When you arrive in a big city, getting a local feel for the place and learning how it ticks can be tricky. Thats where Intrepid Urban Adventures can step in and help you connect with the city, plus give you the confidence to then go exploring on your own, as Rodger and Gwen Elliot recently discovered in Barcelona

We flew into Barcelona on Tuesday April 28th and the next morning we met our Intrepid Urban Adventures local guide, Andrico, as planned, near the entrance to the Town Hall. We were looking forward to our three hour walk around the city, but didnt really appreciate how truly memorable it was going to be.

Our tour included a visit to the Temple of Augustus in the Roman city of Barcino, walking through the medieval streets and lanes of Barcelona plus visits to some of the beautiful Gothic churches including the Cathedral de Barcelona and the renowned Santa Maria del Mar. Andrico was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable in all aspects of the area and its history, and was extremely pleasant company.

We visited the thriving La Boqueria and Santa Caterina Markets and our tour included a special stop at a small local shop to sample a selection of sheep, cow and goat cheeses. This was also much appreciated. We wandered along La Rambla, Barcelonas magnificent tree-lined pedestrian mall and our tour became a wonderful introduction to the many inner-city highlights of Barcelona.

In our subsequent eight days here we returned to several of the places which had been pointed out to us during our walk. The fact that Urban Adventures are limited to a maximum of 12 people is a real bonus, as larger groups can present many difficulties, particularly when walking in narrow lanes and very crowded areas. We would highly recommend this Intrepid Urban Adventure walk to anyone visiting Barcelona.
