For suspected insurgents, NATO jails trump Afghan justice
June 29th, 2011KABUL, Afghanistan — For many Afghans, the only thing worse than being held as a suspected insurgent by NATO forces is being detained by local security forces.
With NATO, they say, there’s at least a chance that they will be able to prove their innocence. With local forces, the only way they can regain their freedom is to pay a big enough bribe to the appropriate official.
Hajji Mohammad Agha, from Kapisa province, described what happened after he, along with his brother, son and nephews, were arrested by NATO forces.
