Sitting here on the edge of my bed, it’s hard to believe that it’s June 2nd, as my hands are so cold I can hardly type. I’m wearing not only a t shirt, a long sleeved shirt, a blue sweater, and a white sweater, but my winter coat as well, and I have my sleeping bag tucked around my body. We have no heating here in my host family’s home and winter is just beginning. It will continue through this month and July, but in August it will be time for spring planting.
Yesterday was the best day I’ve had since arriving in Africa. The country director of the Peace Corps dropped off a letter Lisa had sent long ago containing photographs of Liam and Max together with a check for $85 that I had requested. Both boys

On 14 July 1789 the people of Paris stormed the Bastille and now, 221 years later, the French are coming to do battle in Queenstown. But New Zealands premier lake and alpine resort town stands ready and, come September, will mount a formidable defense to defend the nations honour. The date (18.09.2011), time (3pm) and battleground (Queenstown Recreation Ground) have been agreed, as have the weapons of choice – the French Classics and Classic All Blacks rugby teams. The wily French know that their rugby teams have often proved to be New Zealands nemesis and will play on this psychological advantage. As of this report, around 100 people are feared to have died in a tragic mishap in the Volga River in Russia where a boat carrying tourists sank. According to authorities, the chances of finding survivors are very slim.
The double-decker tourist boat was bring passengers across the Volgra River last Sunday with 180 people on board. The heavy storm is said to have caused the accident but a lot are pondering on the safety of the USSR era boats, planes, and trains. The boat sunk within minutes after leaving port or just about 2 miles from the river bank.
Some witnesses even claim that the tourist boat sank within two minutes after beginning its journey.

How many New Years resolutions have you managed to keep? Within weeks weve normally reverted to our old habits and forgotten our new plans. But for Dave Bouskill and Debra Corbeil a promise to themselves on January 1st led to the race of their lives across Africa and now an exciting new challenge in 2011
We had been avid travelers for a few years by the time we made that momentous toast in the early hours of New Years Day 2007. However, we hadnt been on a significant journey for nearly two years and lately wed been working too hard, sitting on the couch too much and over indulging in the unhealthy pleasures of life that can make us all so plump and lazy.
