Typhoon Nesat has struck the Philippines, triggering floods, cutting power in the capital and disrupting travel across the main island, Luzon
Nesat made landfall earlier today, just before dawn (local time) in the eastern provinces of Isabela and Aurora, on the Pacific coast.
Many roads have been flooded, flights cancelled, and the local Philippino media is warning against all non-essential travel. Those visiting the affected areas should stay inside – somewhere safe and secure – and keep up to date with local media reports.
Officials have said the typhoon has a diameter of 650km with wind gusts up to 170kmph and it is the biggest storm to have hit the Philippines this year. Par

United Continental Holdings announced the details of its MileagePlus loyalty program for 2012, including new benefits and services for United’s and Continental’s most-frequent flyers, more options for members to redeem their miles and additional recognition for customers who purchase tickets in premium cabins or at premium economy fare classes.
“With MileagePlus, we are building the world’s most-rewarding loyalty program and reaching another important milestone in the merger of United and Continental,” said Jeff Foland, United executive vice president and president of Mileage Plus Holdings, LLC.
